That’s the question Allan Needs, 87, was left asking himself after his gopher went missing from his Flora Hill home on Friday.
“I thought it was a joke in the morning,” Mr Needs said.
“I went to cards and it still wasn’t in.”
Bendigo police have been investigating the theft of the red Shoprider QT-8 ‘Little Beauty’ since Friday afternoon.
“It’s ridiculous, isn’t it?” Mr Needs said.
“They didn’t know what they were doing or they would have brought the charger with them.”
The thieves also left the Somerville Street address without the scooter keys.
Mr Needs has appealed for the community’s help to find the gopher, and has offered a small monetary reward for its return.
“I just don’t want to make a claim if I can avoid it,” the pensioner said.
Going down the insurance avenue will cost him at least $500 and deprive him of his no-claim bonus.
Mr Needs bought the scooter almost two years ago, in response to difficulties with walking.
“I used to try and walk around the block, but I can’t do it now,” he said.
The former taxi driver has another scooter at his disposal, but it’s bigger and less portable.
“I could put it on the bus and go into town,” Mr Needs said of the ‘Little Beauty’.
“I can’t put the big one on the buses.”
He urged anyone with information about the scooter’s whereabouts to call the Bendigo Police Station on 5448 1300.
