Johnston – the Central Goldfields Shire chief executive officer – is facing 41 charges relating to obtaining financial advantage by deception, false accounting and conflict of interest following an investigation by the Local Government Investigations and Compliance Inspectorate.
The charges have no relation to Johnston’s role as an AFL Central Victoria commissioner.
However, commission chairman Andrew Cooney said the issue would need to be discussed.
“Mark has informed me of the charges, but we haven’t spoken in detail with him and as a commission, we don’t have a position on it yet,” Cooney said on Wednesday.
“Certainly none of what has happened this week relates to Mark’s role as a commissioner.
“We’ll sit down and think about it as a commission, but at this stage we don’t have a position until we get some more information on it.”
As well as his role on the AFLCV commission, Johnston was a former chairman of the Bendigo Football-Netball League for two years.
Meanwhile, the Loddon Valley Football-Netball League grand final is penciled in for Serpentine this year.
However, the venue will be shifted should the fourth-placed Bears qualify for the senior grand final.
Under the league’s rotation policy, Serpentine last hosted the grand final in 2007 when Calivil United defeated Newbridge.
The LVFNL has released its finals venues, but is yet to determine which grounds will host each final given it plays its senior football on neutral venues.
The list of six finals venues includes the league’s newest ground, Marist College, at Maiden Gully.
• Finals venues – Serpentine (grand final), Bridgewater, Calivil, Mitiamo, Newbridge, Maiden Gully.
