With the Magpies’ 17.12 (114) to 8.8 (56) victory over Castlemaine, it ended Maryborough’s 47-game losing streak by an average of 113 points and a 1049 day drought between victories.
The Magpies’ losing streak had been the longest in the BFNL since Northern United lost 38 on the trot by an average of 107 points across the 1990 and 1992 seasons.
Maryborough’s triumph last Saturday came a week after another of AFL Victoria’s big winless streaks ended when Newcomb beat Portarlington for its first win in the Bellarine league for 73 games and 1463 days.
