In the first 23 days of the month, Bendigo received just 2.2 millimetres of rain.
The average for June is 52.8 millimetres, and typically the city can expect to see nine days of rain of more than 1 millimetre.
It has been a similar story across central Victoria: 3.2 millimetres has fallen at Castlemaine and Maryborough has had 3.5 millimetres.
Dean Stewart, senior meteorologist with the Bureau of Meteorology, confirmed the start of winter had been atypical.
“Across much of Victoria we’ve had well below average rainfalls,” Mr Stewart said.
He said this was mostly due to the presence of high-pressure systems sitting over the state, which forced cold fronts to pass to the south.
On Saturday Bendigo can expect a medium chance of showers, most likely in the early afternoon and evening, with a top of 12 degrees.
Similar conditions are forecast for the rest of the region.
