Four Bendigo Football Netball League players have been named in the AFL Victoria Country training squad.

Sandhurst trio Andrew Collins, Codie Price and Matt Thornton and Golden Square co-captain Jack Geary were included in the 38-man squad to prepare for next month’s clash with the VAFA at Frankston.

Collins, Price and Thornton were three of Bendigo’s best players in the narrow loss to Ballarat at inter-league level last month.

Geary hasn’t played for six weeks after suffering a fracture below his right eye, but he was selected in the squad on the back of his standout performances for Victoria Country in recent seasons.

Two former BFNL stars – Steven Stroobants and Shane Page – also made the squad.

Victoria Country will be coached by St Kilda great and former Richmond coach Danny Frawley.

Eight different country football leagues are represented in the initial squad, with Ovens & Murray Football League (eight), Geelong Football League (eight), Mornington Peninsula Nepean Football League (five) and Ballarat Football League (five) boasting the most selections.

Three training sessions will be conducted in the lead up to the representative clash, with the final squad to be trimmed to 22-players for the July 8 match.
