A LVFNL A-grade netball season full of intrigue has reached the halfway mark.
But are we any closer to determining a premiership favourite? Which three teams will clinch the double chance? And what shape will the final five take?
Mitiamo, Newbridge, Pyramid Hill and Bridgewater are all chasing a top three spot, while three teams have their eye on fifth position.
Here's a look at how your team is placed heading into the second half of the season.
BEARS LAGOON-SERPENTINE
The Bears have shown vast improvement under new coach Cara Bastian and find themselves in the top five. A similar split of wins and losses in the second half of the season likely hands them a finals berth, unless one of Calivil United or YCW can strike red-hot form. Bastian would prefer the Bears' destiny remains in their own hands and will target a win over Bridgewater this weekend to shore up their chances. Sarah Perry and Caitlyn Hocking have formed a tough and reliable combination in defence for the bristling Bears.
Current position: Fifth (4-4)
Last five games: LWWWL
Best win: A 30-25 win against Calivil United in round eight pushed the Bears into the top five.
Key game ahead: v Calivil United (July 29). Another win over the Demons - this time at Serpentine - would go a long way towards ensuring a finals berth for the Bears.
BRIDGEWATER
New coach Meg Allen has the Mean Machine playing a quality and enticing brand of netball, which has set them up for a crack at the double chance come finals time. Back-to-back games against Pyramid Hill and Mitiamo in rounds 11 and 12 will likely determine their top three fate. Bridgewater has midcourter Stacey Rothacker and goal shooter Olivia Treloar enjoying outstanding seasons, but the team's success has been built on solid contributions across the court.
Current position: Fourth (6-2)
Last five games: WWWLW
Best win: A tough round two win against Pyramid Hill came against a genuine premiership contender.
Key game ahead: v Mitiamo (June 24). The Mean Machine's two defeats have come against the league's two top-ranked teams and last season's grand finalists. A win over either stamps them as a genuine premiership threat.
CALIVIL UNITED
It's a rebuilding year for Calivil United under coach Tiegan Redwood, but that's not to say the Demons are without a chance of adding to their long list of finals appearances. The Demons' run home starts with a tough encounter against Mitiamo, but back-to-back games against Inglewood and Maiden Gully YCW delivers a big chance to build some momentum. A late season contest against Bears Lagoon-Serpentine will be pivotal to their season.
Current position: Sixth (3-5)
Last five games: WLWLL
Best win: A 72-33 round seven win over Marong was the Demons' most emphatic, but a round three victory against Maiden Gully YCW was more special, with the club celebrating the 300 game milestones of Jeannie Wagner and Nicky Lawry.
Key game ahead: v Bears-Lagoon-Serpentine (July 29). The Demons relinquished a spot in the five when they lost to the Bears in round eight. A win could potentially deliver them a finals berth.
INGLEWOOD
Things have not gone the Blues' way so far, but as most A-grade coaches will testify, the gap between the top and bottom sides has narrowed considerably this season. Coach Lizzie Wiggins will target Maiden Gully YCW and Marong in particular as potential wins. The Blues are on track to have several teams contest finals, including its 17-and-under team which is reigning premiers. A few A-grade wins would deliver a huge confidence boost throughout the club.
Current position: Ninth (0-8)
Last five games: LLLLLL
Best win: Yet to come.
Key game ahead: v YCW (June 10). The Blues meet an Eagles team coming off three straight losses and below full strength due to injuries and other absences.
MAIDEN GULLY YCW
Things have not gone as planned for the Eagles, who finished the regular season in fifth last year, before conjuring an elimination final win over Bridgewater. Injuries have played a part, as has inconsistency across the four quarters. Coach Christie Griffiths insists one poor quarter a week is hurting her team. Get that right and the Eagles have the personnel and potential to finish the season with a flourish.
Current position: Seventh (2-6)
Last five games: LWLLL
Best win: A season opening win against Inglewood ushered in a new era for the club in navy, orange and white.
Key game ahead: v Calivil United (June 24). The Eagles start the second half of the season two wins behind Bears-Lagoon Serpentine and one win behind Calvil United in the race for fifth spot. A win here would make up ground on at least one of those opponents.
MARONG
Few of the region's teams underwent as many changes in personnel as the Panthers before the opening round. It was always going to take some time for new coach Robyn Cunnington's side to gel, but there's a belief things are on the up at Malone Park. The Panthers weren't far away from Bears Lagoon-Serpentine in round two and will get a chance to gauge their improvement against the Bears in a fortnight's time.
Current position: Eighth (1-7)
Last five games: WLLLL
Best win: A 57-39 triumph over Inglewood is the Panthers' sole win.
Key game ahead: v YCW (July 17). The Panthers enter the second half of the season confident they can add to their one victory. This round 15 clash gives them a chance to defeat a team ranked higher on the ladder.
MITIAMO
Plenty of credit is due coach Jenny Clohesy and her team for establishing themselves as the competition pacesetter despite a horror injury toll. The Superoos have at times done without Abbey Hay and Gabrielle Marlow through injury and Tahnee Cannan (Lady Braves commitments). The Superoos open the second half with Calivil United, Newbridge and Bridgewater - get through those games unscathed and a top-two berth is theirs for the taking.
Current position: First (7-1)
Last five games: WWLWW
Best win: Hard to go past a round two win over last season's grand final nemesis, but an eight-goal win in round three over Bridgewater was equally satisfying with a few key players sidelined.
Key game ahead: v Pyramid Hill (July 17). A one point loss to the Bulldogs in round six is the only blemish on a fantastic season so far for the Superoos.
NEWBRIDGE
It's not what their rivals want to hear, but expect the reigning premiers to be a whole lot better in the second half of the season. The Maroons have rarely had a full squad to choose from, but ominously have still managed to string together six straight wins and seven overall. Goal shooter Jane Reid and goal keeper Amy Jackman have been among those to have missed multiple games - both will be undoubted keys when the business end of the season hits.
Current position: Second (7-1)
Last five games: WWWWW
Best win: An opening round win against a tough Pyramid Hill, when below full-strength stands out, given the Bulldogs' stellar form line.
Key game ahead: v Mitiamo (June 17). A win over the Superoos would give the reigning premiers at least one victory over all eight of their rivals.
PYRAMID HILL
Is there any team in better form right now than Pyramid Hill? The Bulldogs, under Deb Forster, have won six straight games to establish themselves as a legitimate premiership contender. Their two losses came in rounds one and two - and not by much. They have since added one of the competition's premier defenders in Kate Burton and continued to thrive on the accuracy of gun shooters Zoe Kennedy and Jess Holdstock.
Current position: Third (6-2)
Last five games: WWWWW
Best win: A nail-biting one point win over Mitiamo in round six remains the Superoos' only loss this season. More importantly, it signalled the Bulldogs' own emergence as a premiership contender.
Key game ahead: v Newbridge (June 10). The Bulldogs came close to foiling the Maroons' start to their premiership defence in round one and have only grown in confidence since.
