Team New Zealand, skippered by Ashby, beat Land Rover BAR in two America's Cup semi-final races when the British team was forced to retire after a part in their wing sail snapped.
Meanwhile, Australian skipper Nathan Outteridge's Swedish team Artemis Racing broke even with a win and loss against Team Japan in Bermuda.
The results see New Zealand, who took a 2-0 lead in the best-of-nine semi-final, firm as the best-placed America's Cup team to challenge Team USA in the final.
The Kiwis won both races as Land Rover BAR's shore team scrambled to repair their boat.
The first team to win five races in each semi-final will go through to the challenger final against the USA.
Ashby is a 15-time world champion and Olympic silver medalist. The America’s Cup is the only thing missing from his glittering career.
