About 80 kids and adults have learnt more about fungi and the natural environment during a free event held on Sunday.
Attendees explored the fungi present in the Oak Forest at Harcourt during the Bendigo Family Nature Club event, before enjoying a picnic.
They learnt about the different types of fungi present and the role they played in the ecosystem.
The event was one of about 10 the Bendigo Family Nature Club holds each year to connect children and their families to nature through science and play.
Brenton Rittberger said the club believed the more people found a love for the natural environment, the more likely it was that Australia’s unique ecology would be preserved.
Mr Rittberger said the events not only helped give people a better understanding and appreciation of nature, but also provided them an opportunity to meet others.
