Hundreds of pooches are expected to pound the pavement at Lake Weeroona this Sunday during the RSPCA’s Million Paws Walk.
The organisation’s biggest fundraiser is expected to attract some 25,000 people and their dogs to events across the state.
RSCPA Victoria chief executive officer Dr Liz Walker said the funds raised through the event would support welfare work in the community and the care of the 23,000-plus animals that came into the organisation’s centres each year.
Last year’s walk in Bendigo saw an estimated 15 per cent increase in attendance on the previous year.
Even a lamb joined his canine counterparts for a stroll around the lake.
Walks will begin in Bendigo, at Castlemaine Botanical Gardens and at Daylesford Lake at 10am, with registration from 8.30am.
Food and entertainment will also be on offer.
Weather forecasts suggest that after a wet couple of days, Sunday will be mild and partly cloudy, with top temperatures of 18 degrees in Bendigo and 17 degrees in Castlemaine.
Discounted online registration costs $15 for adults, $10 for children, $12 for concession and $40 for families of two adults and two children.
Online registration can be completed until 5pm Saturday at the Million Paws Walk website.
Participants can also register on the day.
