BERT Schmid has never dyed his hair before.
On Saturday morning, he will have his hair coloured bright pink in the hopes of raising awareness and funds for breast cancer research.
The hairdressing appointment comes a day before Mother’s Day, and the Mother’s Day Classic.
The event will see people all over Australia walking or running in support of the National Breast Cancer Foundation.
The Mother’s Day Classic has raised $30.4 million since 1998.
A fundraising effort by the Bendigo Marketplace – Mr Schmid’s employer – aims to contribute $5000 to the cause.
Marketplace security and cleaning staff have worn official Mother’s Day Classic shirts this week to promote the event in Bendigo, which starts at 7am on Sunday at Beischer Park in Strathdale.
The Mother’s Day Classic Arch has adorned the centre’s north entrance, and stores have displayed pink decorations.
The centre has also been running a raffle.
