Now in its final weeks, Collective Vision: 130 years marks a major anniversary for Bendigo Art Gallery. The exhibition and complementary programs encourage visitors to celebrate the collection and even indulge in their own art making in the gallery environment. A stroll through the display reveals an exciting and dynamic approach, with the thematic displays incorporating key works from the historic to contemporary.

This free exhibition continues until May 28, programs are as follows:
POP UP STUDIO: 10am to 5pm, Tuesdays to Sundays. Take time out during your visit to respond to the collection in our Pop Up Studio - a zone for children and adults to reflect and create in direct response to the 130th exhibition. Try your hand at arranging objects and designing your own still life, and draw, write and respond in our collective sketchbooks. Suitable for all ages and abilities.
ART AND TEA: Wednesday, May 17, La Trobe Arts Institute, 121 View St, 10am, morning tea, 10.30am. Guest speaker event is Abdul Abdullah, an artist who works across painting, photography, video, installation and performance, will provide insight into his practice. Presented by the Friends of Bendigo Art Gallery. Free. No bookings required, limited numbers.
STROLLER TOURS: 9.30am, Friday, May 19. Enjoy a gallery tour on wheels before we open to the public with this program available especially for parents/carers, with babies in strollers. Our friendly gallery educator will choose a group of artworks for a lively discussion with the adults around the meaning and making of art. Crying babies welcome! The tour will end in the Gallery Café. Bookings essential. $6 includes a tea/coffee.
BIRTH OF A GALLERY: 12pm, Friday, May 19. To mark the occasion of 130 years since the first meeting to establish Bendigo Art Gallery, join a curator’s tour to discuss a selection of works which have resonated with the public and become firm favourites from the past 130 years.
HIP HIP HOORAY: Family Fun Day, 11am – 1pm, Sunday, May 21. It’s our birthday and you’re invited to our special birthday tea party! Create your own towering tea-cup, help build a giant cake out of boxes, have your face painted and join in some special arty party games. Remember to wear your favourite party outfit. Bookings essential. $5 per family.
RECONCILIATION WEEK: Guest speaker, 12pm, Tuesday, May 23. In the lead up to Reconciliation Week, Judith Ryan, senior curator, Indigenous Art, National Gallery of Victoria, will provide an insightful talk focussing on the life and work of Sally Gabori. The subject of a major retrospective at NGV, Sally Gabori was a contemporary artist of considerable sophistication and dare and a distinguished senior Kaiadilt woman artist from Bentinck Island in the Queensland’s Gulf of Carpentaria.
