The Storm clung on to win by five points, 14.8 (92) to 13.9 (87), to take a 3-1 record into round five.
“We come home with the four points, but to be honest it was one of those games that you get lucky with sometimes,’’ Wilson said.
“We didn’t play well, but that was more to do with Gisborne playing well. Gisborne have improved a lot and their pressure was very good.
“We led all day, but Gisborne were all over us. Lucky we were in front when the siren sounded.
“We’re very happy to come away with the four points. Gisborne will beat a lot of teams at Gisborne this year.”
For the second week in a row, small forward Lachlan Sharp was the hero for the Storm.
After kicking 10 goals against Eaglehawk the previous week, Sharp bagged seven goals before leaving the ground midway through the final quarter with a hamstring injury.
Wilson said the injury was likely to force Sharp out of next Saturday’s inter-league clash with Ballarat.
Gisborne star Clinton Young is also out of inter-league contention after straining his hamstring in the final quarter of Saturday’s game.
Young’s injury took the gloss off the Dogs’ solid team performance. Ryan Baker, Pat Trotta and Ollie Clough were standout performers for Gisborne against the Storm.
The Dogs go into the inter-league break with a 1-3 record.
