HISTORY will be made when Golden Square hosts its first BFNL netball matches under lights on Saturday night.
The schedule-makers could not have scripted a better opening, with the Bulldogs matched against staunch rivals Sandhurst in an A-grade battle of two of the league's four unbeaten teams.
It's also a clash between last season's preliminary final opponents.
Golden Square enters the clash on the back of impressive wins over reigning premiers Kangaroo Flat by seven goals and Strathfieldsaye by 29.
The Dragons have been equally as devastating, starting with a 17 goal win over the Storm , followed by a 75 goal triumph over Castlemaine.
Albeit with different personnel, the margin in the 2016 preliminary final was 15 goals to the Bulldogs, reversing a four goal loss when the teams met in week one of the finals.
Bulldogs netball operations manager Erin McGurk said it would be exciting times at Wade Street this Saturday.
"After several years of fundraising, the lights will bring daylight to the court for our first night game at home," she said.
"The court will also be lit up by A-reserve captain Lia Marrone, who will be playing her 200th game for the Bulldogs."
Meanwhile, Kangaroo Flat wasted no time in recovering from a first-up loss with a win over Eaglehawk last week.
The Roos were led by star goal shooter Ruby Barkmeyer, who was at her brilliant best late in the game, and hard-working centre Chelsea Sartori.
They will need to be somewhere near the best again when matched by a confident Gisborne, which has started the season with two big wins.
Roos coach Janelle Hobbs said a scarcity of information on Gisborne made them a bit of an unknown quantity.
"(The game) is at home, which is handy, but we'll need to do a bit of research on them," she said.
"Obviously Maddy Stewart is a very good player and she plays at our VNL club (Melbourne University Lightning).
"Last year they ended up matching her up against Ruby, so it will be interesting how they start off.
"But I am confident we can match them in what will be a good game."
Gisborne has strated the season under new coach Guy Keane with two wins, the latest a 30 goal victory over South Bendigo.
In other games, Eaglehawk (1-1) will look to rebound from a narrow defeat to Kangaroo Flat at Strathfieldsaye (0-2), South Bendigo (0-2) clashes with Maryborough (2-0), while Castlemaine and Kyneton will get the opportunity to score win number one this season against each other.
