“Highway patrol was travelling one way and detected the car coming the other speeding,” he said.
“(Police) performed a U-turn to try and pull him over but the driver has taken off at speed (away from police).”
Acting Sergeant Sanders said police pulled over and called the situation in before the crashed occurred.
“They called it in and a minute later were waved down by a passer-by saying there was a car into a paddock about a kilometre away,” he said.
“The driver was travelling towards Bendigo when a truck pulled out (from a property). He tried to avoid (the truck) and came through the fence and rolled the car.
“It is fair to say he was still travelling at speed.”
The driver was taken to hospital with suspected broken collar bone and will be tested for alcohol and drugs in his system.
Acting Sergeant Sanders said the driver doesn't have a valid driver's licence and could be facing serious charges.
UPDATE 3.50pm: Property owner Jeff Parker was inside when he heard the crash.
“I heard the bang and came out and saw the car here,’’ he said.
“Then I saw the bloke legging it across past the house and the sheds.
“He was out of the car and going like buggery the other way. I thought he was coming for help but he kept going.’’
Mr Parker’s daughter Jenna McNamara said the driver spoke to her.
“He said not to call the police, he’d just got out of jail, doesn’t have his licence and has just crashed his car,’’ she said.
Mr Parker said his daughter tried to call the police but by the time she got through, they had already arrived at the scene.
He said it was the second crash near the property in six months.
EARLIER: A CAR has crashed in on Epsom-Barnadown Road in Wellsford.
The car appears to have left the road and crashed through a wire fence, only stopping when it hit a tree.
Police, CFA and paramedics are on the scene.
One man is in handcuffs.
More to come.
