Following Anzac Day services through the morning, many footballs fans settle in to watch two old rivals play each other on the MCG.
At Bendigo’s newest sports bar – Mister Bobs – it was a packed house from 2pm.
Co-owner Sonya Kuchel said it was amazing to see football fans enjoying the modern Anzac Day tradition.
“This is what we built the bar for – to see it full of sports fans watching a game,” she said.
“We have only been open for five weeks so this is our first major sports event and it is very encouraging to see so many people.
“People were lining up before we opened at noon to get in.”
Sonya, her husband Michel and her brother-in-law Steven Kuchel who own Mister Bobs and The Foundry didn’t need to worry about the result.
“We are a Carlton and North Melbourne family so we don’t have to watch the game too closely,” she said.
“Our next big game that we hope people will come watch with us is on May 24 when Liverpool play Sydney FC.
“We are also excited to see fans coming for the NBA Finals, the Superbowl, Melbourne Cup and AFL grand final.”
