Vaisakhi Festival is held on the day that in 1699 the tenth Guru of the Sikhs, Guru Gobind Singh, formed an order known as Khalsa.
“We celebrate Khalsa Day as the day of our committedness to Guru’s principles which further gives us strength to serve and contribute to the community in a better way,” Harkirat Singh said.
The festival is also traditionally a celebration of the start of harvest season.
The day was celebrated with traditional dances, martial arts and food, with scores of people meeting to take part in the occasion.
“We want to make the residents of this beautiful city aware of our values and culture to create understanding through celebrating together,” organiser Sandeep Singh, from Sri Guru Singh Sabha, said.
“The festival of Khalsa Day and Vaisakhi are very significant in our religion and culture and everyone has taken part with strong fervour.”
