That’s the case for Maryborough ahead of its first home game of the season against Kyneton on Saturday night.
The Magpies showed some promising signs in their 39-point round one loss to Castlemaine and coach Shane Skontra expects another improved effort against the Tigers this weekend.
“In terms of the work we’ve done in the pre-season we ticked a few boxes last week, but overall we still have plenty of work to do,’’ Skontra said.
“We weren’t clean enough with the ball, failed to find a clean pathway to goal and turned the ball over too much.
“Through the players we’ve recruited into the club we were more competitive around the ball and we were able to spread the load which was pleasing.
“We’ve closed the gap between our worst players and our best players and that will make us a more competitive team.”
