The bus was travelling down Mitchell Street in Bendigo yesterday evening, with three people photographed clinging to the back of the bus.
“These actions are a danger to the safety of the perpetrators and the public,” the company said in a statement this morning.
“Transport Safety Victoria have been notified of the incident and we will be diligently working with Victoria Police to bring these incidents to a stop.”
Christian’s Bus Co executive Campbell Christian said the perpetrators had yet to be identified but investigations were ongoing.
“[Bus surfing] is not a common occurrence but it is something we are keen to discourage and get word out that it is not safe to do it.”
He said the majority of the company’s buses were fitted with CCTV but it was not common to have them outside the vehicles.
Bendigo Sergeant Mark Bell said police were investigating the incident and it was an offence to ride on the back of a bus.
“This is very serious not only for the people involved but for other road users,” he said.
“We take road safety very seriously in Bendigo.”
Anyone with information about the incident is urged to contact the Bendigo Police Station on 5448 1300.
