But with his next delivery – his first legal one – the left-armer was the catalyst for one of the key moments of the BDCA grand final when he had Bendigo United dangerman Ben Gunn caught at mid-on by Richard Tibbett for 14.
It was the first of four grand final wickets for Murdoch, who also dismissed Mark Di Fede (14), Nick Crawford (0) and Jake Thrum (17) as he finished with 4-50 off 17 overs.
It was a bowling performance that earned him the Taylor-Walsh Medal as the best player in the grand final to cap his first season at Eaglehawk after joining from Colbinabbin.
“I got a bit lucky, but if you bowl well enough you get the reward sometimes,” Murdoch said.
“I’ve really enjoyed it at Eaglehawk… a great club, great lads and this is a great way to finish off the year.”
