Bendigo’s 106-90 win over Castlemaine in the final round on Saturday lifted it from third and into second position at the expense of the Maine.
The result ended Castlemaine’s five-game winning streak and sent the Maine from second to fourth on the ladder.
With the victory, Bendigo will hit the finals on the back of three wins in a row and with its confidence well and truly restored following what had been a slump of four losses in a row.
The rinks of Andrew Brown (+5), Barry Anset (+9) and Ian Ross (+8) were all victorious for Bendigo, which during its three wins in a row has earned 48 of a possible 54 points.
Castlemaine will now turn its attention to this Saturday playing in its first final since the 2011-12 season.
• South Bendigo warmed up for its return to the division one finals with a 110-84 win at home over Inglewood.
Among the winning rinks for South was Ryan Tainton, which defeated Lindsay Kelly 28-25.
The victory secured Tainton the BBD’s No.1 skipper’s ranking for the season.
The Inglewood team included the all-Rowley rink of Nick, Keith, Max and skipper Daryl, which went down 29-27 to Liam Crapper.
The most one-sided of the games was the rink of South’s Greg Sherman dishing out a 33-10 hiding to Mal McLean.
• Bendigo East’s Barry Edwards celebrated his 500th division one game for the club with a 99-87 victory over Golden Square.
Edwards was part of a winning rink as Darren Burgess defeated Tas Wallis 25-15.
Both teams won two rinks apiece as Square didn’t go down without a fight.
• Eaglehawk squared its record up at 7-7 with a comfortable 117-92 victory over Kangaroo Flat.
The Eaglehawk rink of Simon Carter finished the season in dominant fashion with a one-sided 36-9 win over Ross Trevethan.
