A Bendigo drink-driver has escaped having his car impounded after a burnout in Long Gully left it so badly damaged it had to be towed.

Bendigo highway patrol sergeant Geoff Annand said the 20-year-old Bendigo man’s blue Holden utility would have been impounded after the 60-metre burnout but for the damage and would be off the road for some time regardless.
Sergeant Annand said police were called the the scene on Bennett Street at about 7am on Sunday following reports about his driving from members of the public.
“When the police arrived they found the blue Holden utility with wheel and axle damage against a curb and there was evidence of burnout marks leading to the vehicle,” he said.
“The driver had been drinking and returned to Bendigo police station for the breath test which resulted in a reading of 0.092.”
