The exhibition is in keeping with the vision of Courtis, who believed that “we make our collections and our collections make us”. The former head of education at Bendigo Teachers’ College acquired the first work for the college in 1958 and the collection retains a strong presence on campus today.
Students will discover significant works on paper by Charles Blackman, Alun Leach-Jones, and John Coburn, as well as work by artists with strong ties to the university, such as former head of art and design, William “Bill” Delecca and contemporary photographer and alumnus Donna Bailey.
The exhibition celebrates the diversity of this unique teaching collection and its founder’s desire to immerse students in high-quality original artworks.
