Bice has been appointed the new Bendigo Football-Netball League manager and AFLCV operations manager.
He takes over the position previously held by Carol Cathcart, who is now AFLCV regional manager.
Bice previously spent eight years as Bendigo Harness Racing Club president and 15 on the committee. He was last year awarded life membership of the BHRC.
Last July Bice retired after 41 years working for the Bendigo and Adelaide Bank – the last seven spent heading up the bank’s retail business across Australia.
“It’s an opportunity for me to work in sport, which is something I’ve always wanted to do,” Bice said on Wednesday.
“I’m looking forward to using my commercial background to work with the board and clubs in ensuring the BFNL is as strong as ever.”
Cathcart said Bice would be a valuable addition to the AFLCV team.
“Dennis is a great person and leader. He is an extremely well respected member of the community,” Cathcart said.
“We should all be very excited about Dennis’ appointment and the qualities he will bring to the role and our region.”
While he is well known for his exploits on the cricket field as a Bendigo District Cricket Association Hall of Fame member, Bice played football at Eaglehawk and Newbridge before retiring at age 29.
Bice will start in the role on March 6.
As well as the new roles for Cathcart and Bice, AFLCV has also recently appointed Shane Koop as a new football development manager, taking over from Rick Coburn, who is now coaching the Bendigo Pioneers.
