Matthew Hind originally appeared before the Ballarat Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday afternoon over a charge of contravening a community corrections order.
But moments after magistrate Steven Raleigh re-sentenced Hind to three months imprisonments, he got up from his seat and walked from the courtroom.
Police officers in the courtroom were hot on his heels, arresting him outside the courthouse within minutes.
Hind was then charged with escaping from police custody.
Hind, who is now serving his three month sentence, will return to court on March 9 via videolink over the new charge.
