It might be Valentine’s Day, but there will be no more love for misbehaving drivers at traffic lights on McIvor and Reservoir roads in Strathdale.
A new speed and red light camera at the intersection began snapping those who break the road rules yesterday.
Installed a fortnight ago, it is one of 13 new or upgraded traffic cameras around the state to be activated.
Variable message signs have warned drivers of the coming change for the past fortnight.
Those signs will remain in place for two more weeks to notify drivers the cameras were now enforcing.
The Strathdale camera is the city’s fourth, after devices at the intersection of High and Don streets in Bendigo, the intersection of Eaglehawk and Marong roads in Ironbark and at a Midland Highway level crossing in Bagshot.
The cameras snared more than $3 million in fines from passing motorists in 2015-16.
Other new camera locations include:
- Springvale Road and Canterbury Road, Forest Hill
- Maroondah Highway and Ringwood Bypass, Ringwood
- Plenty Road and Dunne Street, Kingsbury
- Canterbury Road and Mitcham Road, Vermont
Upgraded camera locations:
- North Road and Clayton Road, Oakleigh East
- Barkers Road and Glenferrie Road, Hawthorn
- Murray Road and Elizabeth Street, Coburg
- Pascoe Vale Road and Peck Avenue, Strathmore
- Thompson Road and Separation Street, Bell Park
- Princes Highway and Station Street, Corio
- Settlement Road and Torquay Road, Belmont
- Moorabool Street and Fyans Street, South Geelong
