The Gully has been found to have only named 10 players on its team sheet for its round six division one game against the Rangas on December 3-10.
The Gully won the game by four runs in a thriller when it successfully defended 143.
However, following the team sheet breach, the Gully has been stripped of its 12 points for winning the game, with the 12 points now awarded to Mandurang.
The Gully will retain its additional 3.81 points from the game made up of runs and wickets taken.
The penalty has had a major ramification on the top four, with Mandurang (now 98.14 points) climbing from fifth to displace Maiden Gully (87.44) in fourth spot.
“As of yet we have not received any evidence of the team sheet, but if it’s found that we’ve made a mistake then we just have to move on and accept the decision,” Maiden Gully secretary Shane Rabbitt said on Sunday.
“These things can happen in cricket, but if we’ve made the mistake then we’ll cop the punishment of the loss of points on the chin.”
EVCA rules state: “A player is deemed to be ineligible if not registered for that club, not cleared to play for that club, under suspension, or not named on the team sheet at the toss of the coin.
“Any team playing an ineligible player shall be declared to have lost the match in which the ineligible player took part and the opposing team will be granted the match points.”
The error was discovered following an EVCA audit of all team sheets to determine player eligibility for the upcoming finals series.
