Winefride, or Win as she is known to her loved ones, became a centenarian on Saturday, celebrating the occasion with family and friends.
She was born on February 11, 1917 in Timor, near Maryborough, the youngest of seven children, but spent most of her life in Castlemaine, before moving to Bendigo in 1989.
She had two children, Kevin and Ted, as well as two grandchildren, Brent and Krista, who have inherited her love of Carlton Football Club.
When asked for a standout memory from her long life, Win thinks for a few moments and then gestures at 45-year-old Brent with a smile on her face.
“I think when this great big man here was put into my arms as a baby,” she said.
Krista said her grandmother used to walk everywhere and never drank or smoke, perhaps shedding light on her enviable longevity.
Ted said his mother was a happy personality and got along with everyone at AdventCare in Golden Square, where she lived.
Krista added she was also a strong-willed woman, having overcome some health challenges in recent years with the determination to reach the impressive birthday.
