The Lockwood intersection, where the Calder Alternative Highway and Bendigo-Maryborough Road meet, will undergo a major upgrade to address safety concerns.
The works involve replacing the existing staggered T-intersection with a roundabout to help improve safety, as well as new streetlights to increase visibility.
VicRoads regional director Mal Kersting said the roundabout would also cater for long and heavy vehicles that frequently drive along the route.
He said the roadworks would be carried out between 7am and 5pm each day and, weather permitting, are due to be completed by November 2017.
“Traffic will be down to a single lane and reduced limits in the vicinity of the works, with traffic controls on site to help minimise delays through the work sites,” he said.
“VicRoads thanks motorists for their patience and reminds drivers to please observe the changed traffic conditions, including work zone speed limits, for their own safety, the safety of other road users and the safety of our workers.”
