The show sees Byrne and singer Vika Bull performing Carole Kings iconic album Tapestry.
King is arguably the most successful female songwriter of all time and Tapestry has sold more than 25 million copies since being released in 1971.
“It's the iconic album of Carole King. Prior to that album, people weren't aware of her,” Byrne said.
“We were aware of her music, she had written so many songs for other people (including The Drifters, The Monkees and Aretha Franklin), so if you didn’t know her then you knew her songs.
“Tapestry became the album that bought her to attention. She had phenomenal success with it and people continue to love it.”
Byrne said she was 13 when Tapestry was released.
“I heard it along with everyone else. I was on Young Talent Time then and sang It's Too Late. I didn’t understand a word of it but I loved it.
“(The album) was so honest. It’s a style of music that shows she a singer-songwriter-storyteller. There is a beauty about it that touches everyone. The music is beautiful, it touches your heart and is soothing.”
Byrne teamed up with renowned Australian vocalist Vika Bull to form an impressive team.
“We thought we would be a good team. I have admired Vika and Linda for years and love their work. She's awesome,” Byrne said.
“We try and focus more on the music for the show and perform the entire album of Tapestry but also songs from Carole’s other albums.
“The performance also has song that people may not know she wrote which could be a nice surprise.
“For me, my favourite Carole King song to sing is Up on the Roof (originally performed by The Drifters but written by King). I have been singing it for 25 years and never tired of it.”
Byrne’s Tapestry show has included several sold out performances in Melbourne and is now heading on a regional tour.
It arrives at Bendigo’s Ulumbarra Theatre on February 25.
“I’m looking forward to that, I have lots of mates up there. I did performance not that long ago for a private function and it was an awesome night,” Byrne said.
“We love doing shows in regional areas. It’s nice to see outside the city. I prefer to live in the country and lived in Lancefield for 12 years.”
Tapestry: The Song of Carole King by Debra Byrne and Vika Bull is on at Ulumbarra Theatre on Saturday, February 25, at 8pm.
