Last round it was by Mandurang, this time United.
The Panthers’ poor form with the bat continued on Saturday when they were bundled out in the 36th over for just 92 as Tigers’ veteran Keiran Nihill tore through their brittle line-up.
Opening bowler Nihill claimed his second six-wicket haul of the season with a superb 6-23 off 13.2 overs.
Over the past decade only Andrew Gaul’s 7-12 against Maiden Gully in 2012-13 are better bowling figures by a United division one player.
Mark Williams’ 28 was the top score for the Panthers, who in their past four games have been bowled out for first innings scores of just 95, 90, 135 and 100.
By stumps the Tigers were 65 runs in front as they ended the day 2-157, with Xavier Walsh unbeaten on 73, while captain Josh White made 67.
Last round the Panthers managed to thwart Mandurang’s outright attempt. Can they do the same again against the Tigers?
• West Bendigo has given itself some hope of winning its first game in almost two years.
The Redbacks haven’t tasted victory since defeating United on February 21, 2015.
But they will turn up at Spring Gully this Saturday sensing a genuine opportunity, with the Crows in trouble with the bat at 3-12 in reply to the Redbacks’ 203.
The Redbacks have already picked up the wickets of Crows’ captain Jayden Mannix (0), Alex Sutton (3) and Jesse Marciano (4).
Earlier, Gary Singh (56) and Andrew Mead (56) put on 80 for the fifth wicket in what was the backbone of the Redbacks’ innings.
Crows’ paceman Saheed Akolade picked up his best figures of the season with 4-41, which included taking the first three wickets.
• Maiden Gully took the last six Sedgwick wickets for just 30 runs to bowl the Rams out for 188.
Rob Brown (4-34) and Brett Haw (3-51) combined for seven wickets for Maiden Gully, while the pressure is now on the Rams’ bowlers to avoid a third-straight loss.
Matt Dwyer (66) and Jordan Ilsey (49) were the best with the bat for the Rams.
• Emu Creek has 221 to defend against Golden Gully.
The Emus had looked on target to post more than 250 when they were 4-196, but lost 6-25 to be bowled out in the 69th over.
Openers Daniel Chamberlain (81) and the consistent Brad Rowe (46) laid a solid foundation with a 116-run stand for the first wicket.
In his first bowl of the season, Cobras’ coach Darren Hinck bagged 4-29.
