The man in his 50s was granted bail in the Bendigo Magistrates’ Court facing numerous assault charges for alleged unprovoked attacks on people in the Bendigo CBD.
On August 21, the man allegedly punched and kicked a man at a taxi rank in Bendigo, before a co-accused produced a knife. The victim managed to run away.
Fifteen minutes later, the man allegedly punched another person in the head while leaving a High Street gym, before throwing a bicycle at the victim.
The man used a range of profanities against police while he was arrested, the court heard.
He allegedly stole a cask of wine from Liquorland on McIvor Road by placing it down his pants, and then returned to the store several weeks later to try and force open the roller doors.
The alarm went off while the man used a shovel and paint tin in an attempt to jemmy his way inside.
The man was also charged for being drunk in public on Victoria Street in Eaglehawk on September 17, when he allegedly threatened the driver of a car stopped at traffic lights.
He was arrested on December 23 for being drunk in public on Hargreaves Street in Golden Square.
His daughter offered her residence for bail, and believed her father had failed to receive the support he needs.
She said her father had been hit with a pole from behind last year, and had “shading on the front of his brain” which was yet to be diagnosed.
“He has a bit of a drinking problem,” the woman said.
“Never in his life has he been offered help.”
Magistrate Peter Mithen said the man had an obligation to his daughter to stay out of trouble while on bail.
“If you play up, you will put pressure on your daughter,” he said.
“She’s your carer, you need to follow her instructions.”
The man will next appear in the Bendigo Magistrates’ Court on January 23.
