The street is open to one-way traffic and there is a detour via Bruce Street.
The works between Kennedy and Barker streets are expected to take two weeks.
The upgrade is part of Mount Alexander Shire’s footpath rehabilitation program.
Residents and businesses on Forest Street will be able to access their property at all times.
