NEW recreation facilities for the Maiden Gully community are expected to be ready for use by the start of the new school year.
Construction on the buildings of the $8 million Marist Community Recreation Precinct, on the grounds of Marist College Bendigo, is almost complete and the last oval will be ready to use in January.
“Despite the wet weather, we have remained on deadline and the builders expect to hand over the facility before Christmas,” City of Greater Bendigo active and healthy communities manager Lincoln Fitzgerald said.
“From then it will just be landscaping and final preparations to be completed early in the new year.”
The precinct, jointly funded by the school and the City of Greater Bendigo, includes a community pavilion, meeting room, kiosk, commercial kitchen, change rooms, a single-court stadium, ovals, netball and basketball courts, and a car park.
The facilities will be shared by the school and the wider community.
Principal Darren McGregor said the students were excited to be able to use them.
