Bouwmeester was meant to be with the Vic Country squad in Adelaide this week, but a back injury detected last week sidelined him for the championships and, potentially, a number of Bendigo United matches in the BDCA.
Bouwmeester’s absence hurt Vic Country’s bowling line-up on day one of the carnival after WA scored a comfortable six-wicket win.
Vic Country made 8-227 off 50 overs, with Bendigo products Ryan Hartley and Xavier Crone making four and eight respectively.
WA won with eight overs remaining. Crone, who has recently returned to action with Carlton after recovering from a knee injury, was Vic Country’s most economical bowler with 0-17 off six overs.
Vic Country plays South Australia in round two at Port Adelaide Reserve on Tuesday.
