The team, coached by Year 10 student Harrison Keck, dominated finals day in Melbourne, winning all five of its matches and only dropping one set on the way to claiming state glory.
After defeating Eltham High School, Wodonga Middle Years College and St Brigid’s College in its pool matches, Girton outclassed McKinnon High School in a semi-final.
With the state title up for grabs, Girton then proved too strong for Monbulk College with a two sets to one victory in the final.
“Everyone in the Girton community is so proud of our Year 8 volleyball team,” Girton Grammar volleyball manager in charge Matthew James said on Thursday.
“The team played consistently throughout the tournament, with each player doing exactly what their coach, Year 10 student Harrison Keck, asked of them.
“To be the best in the state is no small feat.”
The winning team: Felix Bickley, Joel Bothe, Dominic Tune, Elliott Beks, Alex Murphy, Bailey Keck, Flynn Edwards, Scott Johnson. Coach: Harrison Keck.
