The National Hotel is applying for a partial demolition, buildings and works to extend building, external alterations and increase in the liquor licence area as it looks to create more space for its conference area.
In its first official meeting, the new City of Greater Bendigo council will be advised by city officers to approve the majority of the proposal but insist on minor amendments.
Its owners want to demolish part of the original brickwork of the façade facing Violet Street. This would create a 1.8m wide opening which would be filled with timber bi-fold doors.
Councillors will be recommended to instead issue a permit for a single-leaf door.
