Residents of Bendigo, North Bendigo, Ironbark and Long Gully enjoyed the Shindig in the Gully’s offerings, including a produce exchange table, bike decoration contest and live music
This event was the brainchild of community group Ironbark Gully Friends, which has already overseen the planting for 14,000 seedlings in the stretch of land.
Co-ordinator Jacky Vincent said without the gully, the only place for neighbours to bond was at sport grounds.
“We want people to use the gully as if it is a backyard,” Mr Vincent said.
His group also planned to construct a shared pedestrian and bike path linking the four Bendigo suburbs together.
The free community event was funded by grants from the City of Greater Bendigo and Helen Macpherson Smith Trust. Six of the newly elected Bendigo councillors also attended the shindig.
