The visit was part of class for the school’s year 10 elective program Flying Eagles, which looks at aviation and related careers.
Teacher Angelo Giofrelle said the class had a significant practical component, with the 19 students given the opportunity to build rockets, fly remote-controlled planes and even take the controls of a plane themselves, among other experiences.
They also hear firsthand about careers in the industry from those already working in it, which was the main purpose of last week’s event.
Heliwork Australia pilot and former student Kerry Rockliff and airline pilot Grant Welling held a question and answer session with students after landing, covering everything from how they got into the industry to technical details about the helicopter.
Mr Giofrelle said the response from local aviation groups and businesses in supporting the class had been “amazing”.
