The BDCA board met on Monday night and in consultation with the City of Greater Bendigo opted to push the start of the season back another week.
BDCA secretary Travis Harling said the decision applied to all senior and junior cricket.
"The condition of a number of turf wickets and senior and junior outfields as a result of recent weather conditions has forced this decision by the board," he said.
The season was initially scheduled to start with a one-day game on October 8, but heavy rains during late September and continued falls early this month have continued to make life difficult for club curators.
BDCA president Wayne Walsh said it had been a frustrating opening to the season.
"The rain has come at the wrong time at the end of September, when some grounds were available due to footy season finishing," he said.
"But staff have unfortunately been able to get on to do any sowing or preparation of wickets.
"It's been frustrating no doubt, having said that we think its the best things for the grounds, in conjunction with the City of Greater Bendigo maintenance crew to delay the season."
The BDCA season will now open on October 22, with two-day matches scheduled to start this weekend now becoming one-day fixtures.
Hope remains the association will still be able to reschedule its postponed round one matches some time before Christmas.
"Once we get into next year it makes it very difficult (to do), so we'll try and look at a weekend free in our very busy itinerary," he said.
The first round of junior matches will become Twenty20 fixtures.
The BDCA will meet again next Monday to further review the state of grounds.
BDCA draw for round two on October 22: Strathfieldsaye v Sandhurst, White Hills v Kangaroo Flat, Bendigo v Huntly-North Epsom, Bendigo United v Golden Square, Eaglehawk v Strathdale-Maristians.
