Gillin, of no fixed address, appeared via video link from Bendigo Police Station. The court heard he had some injuries and could be vulnerable in custody because of his age.
A forensic medical officer visited Gillin in the police station.
When asked if he could hear the proceedings, Gillin replied: “Yeah, I sure can”.
He also told the court he had been taking Valium “very long term” and required four prescription medications while in custody.

Karley, Nicole, Damien and Amanda Coleman said no words could come close to describing the pain of losing their brother, Hayden.
“You were strong, loyal, creative, funny, clever, smart, kind-hearted and respectful,’’ Hayden’s siblings wrote in a statement to the Bendigo Advertiser.
“You would do anything for anyone, wherever and whenever you were needed to. You never got your chance to shine like we knew you would, we wish the rest of the world could of known you like we did.
“There are so many things and experiences that have been stolen from you getting to explore.
“At anytime anyone just wanted to chat we could go into your bedroom and you would be open ears.
“Not only were you our brother, you were our friend and we were yours, too.
“Growing up with you as a brother and best friend is something we will treasure forever, you didn't deserve any of this, our hearts will continue to ache until we are all together again.
“Thank you for being the brother we all needed you to be – protecting, loving and laughing with us. You truly were special we will always be so proud of you.”
The family said they had often been through difficult times, but stood strong, together.
“This devastation has been the absolute worst thing that has ever happened, and even though we are one man down on the ground, we will stand stronger than ever before because we have a new angel watching over us,’’ Hayden’s siblings wrote.
“Rest in peace you beautiful man, we love you so much.’’
Manny Coleman also told of her heartache via Facebook and encouraged her friends to continue her brother’s love of rap by sharing his music.
“Last night I got a phone call that ripped me apart, I lost my brother and my best friend. he's (sic) life was taken to soon he had so many good things coming his way, nothing can ever replace the emptiness I am feeling, Hayden was not only my blood he was truly my knight in shinning armer (sic) always had my back and was always there when I needed someone. we literally had what I thought was an unbreakable bond until some little feral took his life and every shred of hope I had with it. and even know this doesn't feel real yet like he's going to walk in the door any second my heart is broken,’’ she wrote.
“I will make Hayden proud and remind everyone who hfc was. I love you Hayden.’’
