The Dragons won 21.25 (151) to 9.1 (55) at Trevor Barker Beach Oval.
Sunday’s team featured 17 bottom-age players, including three first-gamers in Mitch Goodwin, who kicked a goal, Zane Keighran and Darby Graham.
The Dragons led 13.9 to 1.0 at half-time, before both sides kicked eight goals apiece in the second half.
“We understood where we were going to be at today as far as releasing quite a few players back locally to senior footy this week,” Pioneers coach Brett Henderson said.
“With the young side we had in there was a bit of boys against men about today, but I thought our second half was really pleasing.”
Midfielder Laine Fitzgerald, wingman Kane Farrell and Darby Henderson were the best for the Pioneers, who are now 4-13.
