A tin rattle on Saturday morning, the group’s gala function on Saturday night then a CD launch yesterday afternoon has put the group halfway towards reaching its target of $100,000.
Not a bad present for Mr Owens who also celebrated his birthday yesterday.
Mr Owens said the money had not all been counted but he believed the group had raised about $10,000 to $15,000 from the tin rattle, and as much as $30,000 from the gala dinner.
“We estimate we are halfway to our $100,000 goal,” he said.
“That’s awesome because it means we only need to sell 2500 copies of our CD and in a city of 100,000 like Bendigo that shouldn’t be hard.”
Mr Owens said if the group could raise $100,000 it would be eligible to receive another $400,000 from other charitable sources.
“So we will be looking at half a million going directly into combating youth homeless in Bendigo,” he said.
“It will fund a bricks and mortar social housing project. Every single dollar will really benefit young people.”
The group’s CD single Home is available at Bendigo Bank branches and the Bendigo for Homeless Youth website, www.bendigoforhomelessyouth.com
