AN OLD foe stands in the way of the Australian Boomers and a basketball semi-final berth at the Rio 2016 Olympics.
Australia meets Lithuania at 12am, Thursday (AEST).
The Boomers have been beaten twice by Lithuania in Olympic bronze medal matches, at Atlanta in 1996 and Sydney 2000.
If successful, Australia will face the winner of the Croatia v Serbia clash (11.45am Thursday).
The Boomers, with Maryborough born-and-bred Matthew Dellavedova in top form, finished second behind USA in Group A.
Lithuania was third in Group B, after losing its final two qualifying round matches against Spain by 50 points and Croatia by nine points.
Dellavedova is having an Olympics to remember, including 23 points and 13 assists in a win against Serbia.
