The City of Greater Bendigo has awarded the contract for the construction of the Barrack Reserve upgrade to FNG Group.
Construction is expected to begin before the end of the year.
The $2M project will see the upgrade and expansion of the main pavilion, adjacent change rooms, and surrounding landscaping.
The City allocated $1.8M towards the project in the 2016/2017 Budget, along with previously allocated funding and contributions from the Heathcote District Community Bank and sports clubs.
The redeveloped pavilion will include a new conference room, upgraded entry and foyer spaces, refurbished wet areas, a social room, refurbished multipurpose community room, a revamped time-keepers’ box, storage areas, a new kitchen/kiosk, upgraded football change rooms and upgraded umpire rooms.
Mayor Cr Rod Fyffe said the upgraded pavilion would provide high-quality facilities for the Heathcote community.
“The pavilion will provide a multipurpose function room for the wider community to use as well as upgraded facilities for sporting user groups,” Cr Fyffe said.
“This redevelopment is the most significant sporting project to be completed as part of the 2009 Barrack Reserve Master Plan.
“We hope it will encourage greater participation in sport and strengthen community connectedness by providing a place to hold events and meetings.”
In May, the Victorian Government announced $100,000 in additional funding to construct a new north-south facing netball court at Barrack Reserve.
A separate tender will be awarded to construct the new netball court with lighting and landscaping, which is expected to be completed before the next netball season.
