Maryborough’s Matthew Dellavedova produced his greatest performance at international level to lead the Boomers to a 95-80 win over Serbia at the Rio Olympics.
Dellavedova had 23 points and 13 assists as the Boomers improved to a 2-0 record ahead of their clash with the United States on Thursday morning (AEST).
Dellavedova was 7/8 from the field, 3/4 from the free throw line, had two steals and no turnovers in 29 minutes.
He tormented the Serbia defence with his penetration off the dribble and outstanding passing.
The Boomers trailed by as many as seven points in the third quarter against Serbia before Dellavedova and backcourt partner Patty Mills took control of the game.
The pair led the Boomers on a dominant 33-17 run in the final quarter.
Mills finished the game with 26 points, while Andrew Bogut overcame foul trouble to add nine points, 12 rebounds and six assists. Joe Ingles his some key baskets down the stretch and had 10 points.
The victory keeps the Boomers in the box seat to finish second behind the USA in their pool ahead of the quarter-finals.
