Bendigo District Cricket Association has backed calls to improve facilities for women in sport.
Association president Wayne Walsh said he intended to work with council to ensure there were suitable amenities for the growing number of females playing cricket.
Female cricketers have played at the Queen Elizabeth Oval, Bendigo’s premier sporting ground.
Mr Walsh said the facilities for women, which have been described as “primitive”, had yet to be an issue.
“We haven’t had multiple games or had to train with men and women at the QEO,” he said.
“They have basically got the full run of the ground and the change rooms to themselves.
“But it’s something we are very conscious of. There’s a big push right throughout Australia to involve women at all levels within cricket.”
He said Bendigo was no different to any other city in Australia in that it had to cater to athletes of all genders.
“Take away those little barriers and we all get involved,” he said.
He was hopeful the next female cricket summer program would be as successful as the pilot program.
