A CANDIDATE in the City of Greater Bendigo election wants to expand the Talking Tram service.
Karen Corr, who is running in the Lockwood Ward, said a tram line and stops should be installed along Mitchell and View streets, Baxter and Water streets, the Golden Dragon Museum and along the back of Rosalind Park.
“It would complement the existing fantastic tourism activities in the CBD,” Ms Corr said.
“It would offer people more options to get to the tourist areas. People would be able to come to Bendigo on the train, hop onto a tram and go up to the art gallery and Rosalind Park.”
While the tram would still cater for tourists, Ms Corr said she wanted to look at getting locals on board.
“You need different options for people to get around the city,” she said.
“Having an extended tram service for people that can’t walk everywhere in town would be fantastic.”
Ms Corr said the plans hadn’t been costed.
The announcement followed a recent call from Ms Corr for upgrades to bus and train services in the city.
“Obviously cost is a factor,” she said.
Staff at Bendigo Trust, which runs the tram, didn’t want to comment until after the elections.
