Heathcote Police Senior Constable Stewart Probst said the incident occurred at around 8.30am.
“A group of people were cutting wood on a private property – which they had permission to do,” SC Probst said.
“The man was trying to chop a large, dry tree which fell on him.
“He died instantly.
“The others attempted CPR, an ambulance attended the scene, we attended the scene but, unfortunately, nothing could be done.
“The family has been notified – they’re very upset.”
Police are currently working on a coroner’s report.
