Two staff members had just opened the Elmore BP when the man entered at about 5.20am, produced a knife and demanded money.
Police said he then left the scene in an older-model maroon Mitsubishi Magna.
Vivienne Spizzica, who was working at the service station during the armed robbery, said there were no injuries.
“We are shaken but other than that we are okay,” she said.
“It was quite confronting. Sometimes there is only one of us on but there were two of us there this morning, so we were glad we were together and able to supporter.”
Ms Spizzica said staff had recently been trained in how to act during armed robberies.
“It paid off. I think we handled it well. We gave him what he wanted and got as many details as we could,” she said.
“It was very overwhelming and very draining both mentally and physically.
“It’s not something you expect but sadly it is now almost part and parcel in society.”
