But there’s no doubting that an election day sausage is a popular tradition in Australia.

The Junortoun Community Action Group is one of many community organisations that will be a hosting sausage sizzle on election day.

The group will hold a community barbecue at the Junortoun polling booth at the Bendigo Baptist Church with proceeds to support local projects.

Lightning Reef Primary School, Rochester Primary School and Eppalock Primary School are also planning on hosting election day barbecues for voters.

“It’s out first time doing it. The group’s been going for about four years and we enjoy doing things for the community and decided to have a presence on election day,” Junortoun Community Action Group secretary Kevin de Vries said.

“It’s a bit of fun and great way to raise money for our operations and community projects around Junortoun.

“Sausages on election day is becoming an Australian tradition and we are about a sense of community.

“What better way of demonstrating that you’re part of the community than a barbecue on election day?”

The Junortoun Community Action Group has been working to establish more community facilities in the area.
